Healthcare and clinical waste disposal and recycling services - GW Butler Ltd.

Working towards a bigger, better way of managing clinical waste
Independent clinical waste company GW Butler Ltd (GWB) is delighted to anounce its acquisition of Medical Waste Solutions Ltd (MWS). Both companies invested in Tempico Rotoclave facilities - an advanced technology that delivers safe and efficient recycling of clinical waste.
With this acquisition GWB has effectively doubled its capacity and expanded its service to cover the Midlands and London. GWB already has an established northern client list, serviced from the company’s Bradford operations.
The larger GWB, with its former MWS facility in Nottingham, is one of only a few UK clinical waste company to use the Rotoclave system. This delivers a vast improvement on traditional incineration methods, which is costly for both the client and the environment.
Medical Waste Solutions, the business and its assets, was bought as a going concern out of Administration. Matthew Miles, who has had an interest in GWB since his former company 3b Waste traded with them back in 2001, helped secure the deal.
Martin Helstrip, Operations Director of GWB said, “Having the support of Matthew and his commitment to our vision for GWB was essential to enable us to close the deal with the Administrators.”
Brought in as GWB’s new Commercial Director, Matthew has been given the brief of developing the business into a national concern. “GWB has maintained a strong service ethos that you might expect from a family business that’s been operating since 1933. It’s spearheaded by a great management team who have created an efficient business model in West Yorkshire,” he says.
“The new GWB will give health authorities throughout the UK, including London, a competitive and efficient alternative,” Matthew continues. “We’re keen to offer clinical waste producers treatment and collection on a 'big enough to handle, small enough to care' basis.”
Deanna Butler, Managing Director of GWB said, “We’re really excited about the possibilities and challenges ahead as we work towards becoming a national player and one of the largest independent operators in this sector.”
Former MWS customers have been assured that through GWB they will receive an independent, competitive quality service. The first plan instigated by this larger company is the commisioning of a new plant in the south. This will service London and give GWB a capacity to manage circa 20,000 tonnes of clinical waste a year.
GWB has been servicing the Sheffield Hospitals NHS Trust for nine years; other clients include Chesterfield NHS Trust, numerous private hospitals and nursing homes. It’s hoped that the company’s larger operations, with plans to expand still further south, will win similar contracts throughout the country.
