PRESS RELEASE
26 November 2010
Yorkshire-based resource management businesses team-up to push south
Otley-based business 707 Resource Management has signed a £2.5 million partnership deal with G W Butler Ltd – the Healthcare waste management company, based in Bradford – in a strategic move to expand further south and build a nationwide service offering.
With this five-year partnership, the two Yorkshire-based businesses are pursuing a national expansion plan as a total waste management turn-key solution, confident they will secure significantly more contracts, thanks to the combined expertise and a ‘one-stop-shop’ range of waste management services offered.
According to the agreement, 707 Resource Management is providing GW Butler with their general waste and recycling collections in addition to its clinical waste services throughout the UK as well as endowing them with their expertise in legislation, online reporting and accurate documentations.
The partnership with 707 Resource Management has enabled GW Butler to acquire one of the most technologically advanced waste processing plants in the world – located in London (Rainham, Essex). At this unit they have successfully trialled technology unique to the UK market that allows waste material to be sterilised, processed and subsequently turned into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). The process enables the waste being turned into small bricks to be used as fuel in the industry, such as cement kilns.
This plant currently processes 10 tons of clinical waste every day, 90 per cent of which is already recycled. By the end of the year, it is expected that each of the company’s three plants (the other two being in Bradford and Nottingham) will be able to convert waste material to RDF, diverting it from landfill or incineration.
These sophisticated plants currently boast the Tempico Rotoclave facility, able to achieve a LOG 106 reduction in microbiological spores one hundred times the accepted international standard. The improved system of steam sterilisation allows all clinical waste to achieve the same standard of treatment, thus not leaving any cold spots within the waste.
Another innovative feature regards the shredding process: unlike other technologies, the Rotoclave does not need to shred the clinical waste prior to the sterilisation in order to achieve high processing standards. Shredding takes place after the sterilisation, hence making the whole process as clean and safe as possible.
Graeme Rose, managing director of 707 Resource Management said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to be working with such an established and highly regarded business within the industry. I have always known GW Butler as a reliable, efficient and customer-focused business able to provide first class services and I’m confident that this partnership will bring fruitful results to both sides.”
A significant accomplishment that the business partnership has made possible is the extension of a contract with the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts. Chesterfield Royal Hospital had been working with GW Butler since 2004, but it is thanks to the recent agreement with 707 Resource Management that the companies have successfully re-tendered for the contract, in a partnership that is worth £300,000 per annum.
The agreement with 707 Resource Management has also enabled the companies to gain a place on the London Procurement Programme (LLP) roster, which allows them access to tender for all waste contracts across all London Primary Care Trusts.
Matt Miles, Chairman of GW Butler has said:
“This was a significant strategic move for our business which
has enabled us to pursue broader revenue streams. We are constantly
striving to find ways to further enhance our service and our new
partnership with 707 Resource Management means that we can now
offer clients a truly turn-key waste management solution.
Not only can we be a one-stop-shop for
their current needs but with 707’s expertise we are now able
to offer full waste management audits to help them identify even
greater opportunities for recycling, which can significantly
strengthen the efforts of organisations working towards ‘zero
landfill’ status.”
